<h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: center;">Winter Updates at Winston</h2> <img src="/images/447822e7-aadf-479b-9eb0-50efc6539be5" alt="respect" width="299" height="168" style="width:299px;height:168px;display:inline-block;float:left">Our school is busy and buzzing with activity! Chess Club, Cabaret Club, Wellness Club, sports, robotics, literacy, science, math, WISE and recess snow hills all keep our kids learning and happy! It is great to see students taking ownership of their learning and being responsible by bringing their agenda each day, by coming prepared for learning, and by helping create a positive learning space each day. This means doing their best to follow the student created 'code' of culture within Winston. Helping build resilience in little ones by working on accepting wait time, knowing how to accept the word 'no' or 'not yet' and teaching self regulation strategies (deep breathing, naming emotions, walk away) are all important learning tools to practice at home and at school to build success in social and academic learning. Sticker sales will happen next week outside the library at nutrition breaks and then for the remainder of January, they can be purchased at the office. Parent Council is a wonderful support and resource for our school and we appreciate all they do to support students, programming, staff and families. This helps clear a crowded parking lot and street during peek times. Please remember that our streets are a no parking zone. If you must drive your child, please do not drop off children in the parking lot and have them walk through it as it is a congested area with traffic. Thank you for parking in the lot and then walking your child to the gate.Please Close the GatesWe encourage families to drop children off at the school gates, rather than coming onto the school yard in the morning. For the safety of students, we are trying to ensure that the gates remain closed. If you do need to be on the yard, please ensure you close the gate (Earl Street Gate and McDonnell Street gate) when you leave. Winston uses this platform and will continue to use our Bulldog Family Bulletin to provide updates to families. This newsletters are where we will share school-specific information and highlights of student work and events in the building and is generated on our school website. This newsletter is also sent out via School Messenger so that you receive it in your in-box (sign up for alerts - email or text).<a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/report-a-student-absence" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer" class="editor-link">SchoolMessenger App</a>: Download the SchoolMessenger App to stay connected. We use the platform School Day for online payments (field trips, milkshake days, etc) and for digital permission slip signatures. ALL families are required to sign up using their child's individual match key that will be provided within the first weeks of school. Bike racks are located on the grass outside the gate of the main playground. Please encourage children to NOT cut through the parking lot as this is a busy place in the mornings and after school. Limestone welcomes all students, promoting and encouraging families to attend their area school, but we understand that it is best interest of some students to attend an out-of-boundary school and that selecting the right educational setting for your new student is a significant decision.Selecting an out-of-boundary school for your new student is a decision influenced by many factors. The school may be closer to a workplace or near a childcare provider that might be more convenient for drop-off and pick-up routines. In accordance with board policy, by default, students will be enrolled in the school designated within their boundary area, based on their home address.We aim to accommodate family preferences, but please note that out-of-boundary placements are not guaranteed, and families will be responsible for organizing transportation to and from out-of-boundary schools.Students may be permitted to attend any school within the board when there is available student space, upon submission and approval of the proper application. Dear Families,I hope this message finds you well as we approach the end of the last school week of 2025 and the upcoming holiday season.  I wanted to share a few updates with you before we head into the Winter Break:EQAO ResultsThe Ministry of Education recently released the 2024-2025 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results, and we are proud to share that Limestone achieved its strongest performance in four years, with gains across every testing category.Limestone’s results align with provincial outcomes in many areas and show notable improvements in others, including among specific student groups. In fact, Limestone’s performance is at or above the provincial average in nearly all measures.These accomplishments reflect the collective efforts of Limestone’s educators, Educational Assistants, program teams, and school leaders—along with the commitment and support of students and families across the district. Our transportation partner, Tri-Board Student Transportation Services (Tri-Board), works closely with school bus companies to determine whether it is safe to operate on days with adverse weather.School buses function differently than family vehicles, and sometimes, even when roads seem safe for cars, conditions are not suitable for buses. Given the geographic size of our district, weather can vary significantly from one region to another.
